On February 27th, the Bedford Chamber of Commerce named Carleton-Willard Village Business of the Year for 2012. The award was presented to Barbara A. Doyle, President and CEO of the Village and to James. A. Saltonstall, Chair of the Board of Trustees. Bedford citizens, business owners and community leaders submitted nominations to the Chamber for the prestigious award, one of several given each year to honor local business representatives.
The Business of the Year award was established to recognize a Bedford organization that conducts its business in a highly ethical and exemplary manner. The business must also be a good citizen to the town by supporting, financially or with other resources, community activities and operations.
Carleton-Willard Village is a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community that provides services and support to older adults. Its sister organization, Carleton-Willard At Home, helps residents of Bedford and surrounding towns to successfully and safely remain in their own homes as they age. Carleton-Willard’s outreach efforts support the residents of Bedford in many ways, including providing the funding for Wheels of Life, a Council on Aging administered program that provides transportation for seniors who need access to Boston-area physicians and hospitals. Carleton-Willard also supports the Senior Center Lunch Program. How lunches are prepared in Carleton-Willard’s kitchens and served three days a week at the Bedford COA.
“We are delighted to receive this award,” said Barbara Doyle. “We take seriously our commitment to our community as well as to our residents. Carleton-Willard and its predecessor organization, Llewsac Lodge, have been a strong part of Bedford since 1909. It is gratifying to have the services we provide to our community so publicly recognized.”
Maureen Sullivan, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce commented, “Carleton-Willard is truly a shining star in our community. They give so much back and we are very pleased to be able to honor them with the Business of the Year Award.”
